Parenthood was my turning point
Motherhood has been the most transformative and profound experience in my life. In my single years I was not very responsible for many things; all I did was have
fun, party with friends, and work. Those were the things that I worried about during my single years. In 2009 I married a wonderful man, and the same year in late
December we welcomed our son Roman. The minute I held the baby I realized my life had changed. Although I had heard the experience would be transformative I
didn’t appreciate that prediction until that moment. The love I felt was overwhelming. Looking into the baby’s eyes, touching his skin, and realizing I had just brought
him into the world was so different than any emotion I had experienced that I quickly realized I had reached a turning point.
Since December of 2009 my priorities have changed. Waking every 3 hours to feed the baby would seem difficult, but it didn’t feel like a chore, it was a labor of love.
From breast-feeding to bottles, crawling to walking, walking to running, running to riding a bike, my focus has been on being a good mother. The responsibility can
sometimes be daunting but as he grows the joy is incomprehensible. Speaking with more experienced parents they say the journey never ends and continues to be
rewarding.
My only concern now is to balance being a wife and a mother as we’re expecting our second child in October.
